Windows snip · Gemma 3 via Ollama
Snip now.
The name arrives after.
Press New or Print Screen, drag a rectangle, and the image is copied
and saved immediately. A local Gemma model then renames

search, like auth0-login-error.png.

The snip is yours immediately. Gemma names it while you take the next one.
A snip you can find later
Capture like Snipping Tool. Search the folder by what was on the screen.
-
Search by the screen, not the clock
Names describe the UI. An Auth0 error, a Figma export dialog, a failing test become filenames you can type in Explorer.
-
Nothing leaves the laptop
Gemma runs through Ollama. The image is read locally. There is no account, no upload, and no API key.
-
The next snip never waits
Copy and save happen on release. Gemma renames that file in the background, so Print Screen is free for the next capture.
-
Same overlay as Snipping Tool
Rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform. Delay is 3, 5, or 10 seconds. Escape cancels. Older unnamed files can still be scanned.
Three steps, then you can snip again
-
01
New, or Print Screen
Pick rectangle, window, full screen, or freeform. Add a 3, 5, or 10 second delay if the screen needs a moment to settle.
-
02
Release, and it is saved
The snip is copied to the clipboard and written to
Pictures\Screenshotsat once. You do not wait for the model. -
03
Gemma renames it after
A local vision model,
gemma3:4bby default, replaces the timestamp with a kebab case name. Scan still covers older unnamed files.

Get the latest build
The button downloads the NSIS installer from the
v0.1.0 release.
The same release also has the MSI and the full
snipname-windows.zip.
Unsigned build, fine for a local install. You also need
Ollama
and ollama pull gemma3:4b.
Questions
Does the screenshot leave my computer?
No. Snipname calls Ollama on 127.0.0.1:11434 from the Rust
side of the app. Gemma reads the image locally. There is no cloud model
and no telemetry account.
Does the next snip wait for Gemma?
No. Release copies the image and saves the file immediately. Gemma renames that file in the background. If Print Screen is already taken by another app, use New. The save still does not wait.
What does a generated name look like?
English kebab case, three to eight words, no date, no extension in the stem. The model also returns a one sentence reason, shown under the proposed name so you can reject a bad read.
Can a rename overwrite a file I already have?
No. If auth0-login-error.png exists, the next one becomes
auth0-login-error-2.png, then 3, and so on.
Where are the MSI and the raw exe?
The button is the NSIS setup. The
v0.1.0 release
also has the MSI and snipname-windows.zip, which includes
snipname.exe if you want to run it without installing.
Do I need a GitHub login to download?
No. The repository is public, so the installer starts without an account. GitHub may still show the release page first if your browser blocks the direct file redirect.
Windows SmartScreen warns about the installer.
The build is unsigned on purpose for this demo. SmartScreen will flag an unknown publisher. Install only if you trust this repository.
What if I already have a folder of timestamps?
Scan still finds png, jpg, and webp files whose names start with
Screenshot, Screen Shot, or
Cuplikan layar. Dry run shows the proposed name. Rename
writes it when you say so. Already named files are left alone.
Which model should I pull?
Any vision capable Gemma that Ollama lists. gemma3:4b is the
default the app suggests. Check Ollama in the app after the pull so the
model appears in the dropdown.
